Best Finishing Powders for Beating the Summer Heat!

photo-125

Tis the summer season of easy wear tinted moisturizers, light foundations and bb/cc creams! Most ladies finish off their choice of coverage foundation with a light dusting of finishing powder that will ensure makeup lasts all day without the meltdown of the heat and humidity! I have tried numerous and numerous finishing powders over the years due to my oily complexion. Therefore, summer is not the only season I heart my finishing powders.Finding the prefect, light powder is tricky because it should be finely milled to avoid the white cast and must be sufficient enough to dry up the oilies throughout the day.

Bare Minerals – Mineral Veil has not worked too well for me in the past because it always seemed to gather up in my pores and left a slight residue. Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay finishing powder worked fairly well before I looked closely to ingredient list and read that it contains talc and polymethylsilsesquioxane, which are pore clogging ingredients and are linked to tumor growth. Through my journey to finding clean makeup brands, I’ve ran into some very amazing finishing powders that work as well as they claim!

W3LL People Realist Invisible Setting Powder ($24) – Translucent, white, finely milled loose powder that gives a soft focus look to the face and keeps oils at bay throughout the day. It has a botanical scent that comes from natural derived ingredients and literally smells like a spa! No chemical, perfumey scent here! The powder contains soothing aloe and chamomile. It never gives off a white nor a greyish cast to the face; therefore, it should work for all skin tones. I love using this specific powder to set all my mineral foundations.

Ingredients: Cornstarch, Aloe Barbadenis Powder (Aloe)*, Maranta Arudina- cea Root (Arrowroot), Silica, Matricaria recutita (Chamomile)**, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea)* *USDA Organic.

RMS Tinted Un-Powder ($34) – The tinted un-powder comes in 3 shades. I’m in the shade 0-1 and I have fairly light skin tone. There is also a translucent version, which I have not tried but heard amazing things about. The tinted version works extremely well with keeping cream foundation in check all day. The coverage is very sheer that provides a light even tint to the face. It minimizes the appearance of pores and softens the skin while absorbing oil with the primary silica ingredient. I love using the un-powder with RMS “un” cover-up. Lastly, I highly recommend using this product with the accompanying puff. Just swirl the puff in the lid with the powder and stipple the powder all over the face. This will ensure proper light coverage and will diffuse the look of pores by giving a silky look to the face.

Ingredients: Silica, Iron Oxides: CI 77492, CI 77491, CI 77499

Juice Beauty Refining Finishing Powder ($22) – Just as the RMS un-powder, Juice Beauty’s refining finishing powder comes in 3 shades: Ivory, Sand, and Tan. I use the lightest shade, Ivory and will state that it gives a light coverage versus sheer. The powder is not as finelly milled as RMS or W3ll People, but still provides a beautiful finish to setting your makeup or moisturizer. I like using this over the top of Juice Beauty’s tinted moisturizer and JB’s CC cream. I would recommend this powder to those of you who have normal to combo skin types as this sets the makeup perfectly but is not as mattifying as the other finishing powders I mentioned. The ingredients in this are fantastic as most of them are full of antioxidants, which provides nourishment and fights off free-radical damage.
