S.W. Basics of Brooklyn Review: Natural & Organic

photo-162

S.W. Basics of Brooklyn is an organic company that produces skincare and body care products with 5 ingredients or less in ALL of their products! Talk about integrity and character! Their line of products seems fairly simple from packaging to the basic needs of proper skin and body care items. With 5 ingredients or less, one would think that their products may not perform to other beauty care lines that contain a complete list of ingredients ranging from herbals to vitamin rich components. However, I’ve found that S.W. Basics outperforms on some products versus other popular green beauty brands. Here are my top 3 picks from the brand that I’m currently enjoying with amazing results!

Body Scrub

Okay, with ONLY 3 ingredients of organic extra-virgin coconut oil, organic shredded coconut and organic brown sugar – this is the ultimate dessert for your skin! Your partner WILL want to be around after you’ve showered and scrubbed with this decadent goodness! The first time I opened the jar and started to scrub away, I had thoughts of devouring this stuff (I’ sure you will too, once you get hands on this!).

Onto the performance of the body scrub: The scrub itself is a bit sticky because of the brown sugar as one of the key ingredients. However, it definitely lives up to its claim on performing rather well by scrubbing away dead skin and smooths for a polished and fresh skin. This is a must for me prior to shaving and prior to applying a faux tan lotion. It preps the skin for body oil, body butter, or moisturizer for quick absorption of healthy nutrients from those products. Please note, since this is a completely natural product without preservatives- it will spoil if kept in the shower (if water accidentally drizzles in) or if kept for quite a few months without much use. Recommended to be used up within a couple of months. $22

Organic Lip Balm Flight

The packaging of 4 for these organic lip balms couldn’t get any cuter! Packaged in a tin reminiscent of candy or mint packaging! Tin is totally reusable, btw! The ingredient list is quite impressive ranging from 5 to 3 ingredients, depending on the flavor. The 4 flavors are: cocoa, peppermint, citrus, and cinnamon. My favorite has to be the cocoa and the peppermint (smells like a chocolate peppermint indulgence treat!) When applying to the lips, the smell will definitely want you to keep coming back for re-application due to dessert like senses.

Performance: I’ve been searching for natural and organic lip balms for what seems forever now. I’ve tried many other brands with clean ingredients and have only been dissatisfied. Other lip balms either created a filmy residue on the lips or perform for an hour, only to leave lips dry again later. With S.W. lip balms, I don’t have any of these issues. The balms are perfectly buttery on the application and leave lips feeling fully cushioned for a perfect, kissable and glossy pout! I seriously cannot rave enough on the performance and scent of these little guys of perfection! The flight of these lip balms are my fave product from S.W. Basics. $15

Ingredients: Organic cocoa butter, organic extra-virgin coconut oil, organic beeswax, organic essential oils (in citrus, cinnamon, and peppermint options). There is a vegan option available on all of the 4 flavors that are beeswax-free. Candelilla wax is used instead.

Makeup Remover – ‘Mascara, You Ain’t the Boss of Me’

photo-160

S.W. Basics makes a great organic makeup remover that uses only 3 ingredients: organic jojoba oil, organic extra-virgin olive oil, and organic sweet almond oil. This is one of the company’s TOP selling products. Shake it up and put it on with a cotton ball to get off all that eye makeup without any burning eyes or greasy residue. And it doubles as an awesome light moisturizer if you just ran out of your fave face oil.

Although, this is a good makeup remover, other oils perform just as good to get all the makeup off. I love jojoba oil for its properties to mimic the natural oils our bodies produce and the light texture of the product. Adding extra-virgin oil (rich in vitamin E and antioxidants) and sweet almond oil (anti-inflammatory, antioxidant rich), boosts the nutrient content of the product when used on the skin as a moisturizer. I would recommend this makeup remover to those that like a product that is multi-functional; makeup remover and light moisturizer in one. $14

So, this sums it up on my review of S.W. Basics favorites!

First I want to say how much I enjoy the look and layout of your site. So easy to see what each article is about, and the images are beautiful. It’s so easy to get conned by a company’s sales pitch about their own products, I do appreciate reading a review written by someone who has actually tried the product, and is genuine in their opinions. Very helpful.

      Hi Hindy,
Thank you, so much for the nice compliment! I take all of my reviews seriously and always give my honest opinions on all items. I’m passionate about spreading the word of importance on using ‘green’ cosmetics due to so many toxic ingredients being produced with mainstream cosmetic brands. The side effects from ‘dirty’ ingredients eventually kick in, whether be internal or external factors.
      Thanks for stopping by!
